This million dollar business question could make your profits soar. An easy marketing strategy to increase sales. "Would you like fries with that?"
This has to be one of the simplest, easiest and cheapest ways to create extra sales. You already have the customer there giving you money. Why don’t more businesses do it?
I have heard business owners say, “It works in the fast food industry, but it wouldn’t work in my industry.” Rubbish!!
Let’s have a look at how simple you could implement this into your business.
For example a computer shop could do try the following: “Would you like some spare toner with the new printer?”
Shoe Salesman: “These are a great leather shoe. Would you like to purchase some nugget to help maintain your new shoes?”
Mechanic: “The cars serviced and all ready to go for an extra $$ we can detail and hand wash it if you like”
Plumber: “The leak in the toilet is fixed Mrs Wood, I noticed the taps look a bit worn (this is only if they really are worn) for a minimal fee of $$ I can check and replace all of the taps in the house if it’s convenient?"
Coffee Shop: “Would you like to purchase some of our nice home made chocolate mud cake to have with your coffee?”
Pizza Shop: “Would you like garlic bread with that?”
Fishing Shop: “Here is your new fishing line. A great way to take care of it is with “XYZ” Product, would you like to give it a try?”
Dentist: “For an extra $$ we can whiten your teeth after the filling?”
Hardware shop: “Would you like the latest “ABC” attachment for the new drill?”
Paint Shop: “Do you need some paint brushes to go with your paint?”
Photo shop: “Would you like double the prints for your photos for friends and family?”
Hairdresser: “Jo has done a great job of your hair, would you like the special “XYZ” shampoo to look after you new haircut?”
Work out what your business could offer that would assist the customer and compliment what they are already buying, such as an extra product or service. It’s not rocket science – its just extra fries to go with the burger!
A great marketing strategy that will not cost a cent. You could have scripts on the register to prompt different questions depending on the product purchased.
You may not get everyone to take up your offer, however, the extra few seconds it takes to ask and the ones who do take up the offer, will increase your sales straight away.
Tip - A great question to use when the client has brought the extra product, or if specific questions do not apply, then is to ask "Is their anything else I can help you with?" If they do purchase another item, then ask again "Is their anything else I can help you with?" again and again until the customer is satisfied.
This question works extra well at delis, lolly shops and bakeries. The customer may have come in to purchase one item, but standing in line they then see three other items that they want to buy.
Always ask!
